Movietone's taking a break
A portal, perhaps, attempting to bring the distant near. A reminiscence of films and players seen during 70 years. First seen in dark buildings surrounded by strangers and now watched again and again on diminished screens. Herewith some random thoughts on that flickering past. Remember when the lights went on and we had to leave the theatre? From Rick’s CafĂ© Americain to Lexington Avenue? Laszlo's on Lex.
That's a great poster. Favorite part: "Enfants non Admis."
ReplyDeleteBtw, GP, I just started a series at my blog looking back on what came out this week 10, 20, 30 + years ago. It'll be popping up every Friday, ideally. Part of the idea is to hear people's thoughts on the various films. Since, as you point out in your banner, you've been doing this movie thing for a good 70 years, I'd love for you to check it out and share your thoughts on the films in question, particularly some of the older, more obscure titles from the 50s, 60s & further back. I'm discovering some of these films myself looking them up for the series and would love to hear more about them.

Keep up the good work!
Thank you MovieMan. I am partial to the film and particularly Barbara Bel Geddes, who, alas, is not that well depicted in the poster. I will visit your site, as you suggest, in the next few days. Best. GP
